57 years ago, on the 9th August 1956 – 20,000 women staged a march to the Union Buildings in Pretoria in protest to the proposed amendments to the Urban Areas Act of 1950 (Pass Laws). Led by Lilian Ngoyi, Helen Joseph, Rahima Moosa, Frances Baard and Sophie Williams, these women left bundles of petitions containing over 100 000 signatures at government’s door. They sang a protest song composed in honour of the occasion, Wathint’Abafazi Wathint’imbokodo – now you have touched the women, you have struck a rock. These words have come to represent the courage and strength of South African women.

Today, we see women achieving recognition and success in a variety of arenas, from their within communities to the world stage – women are agents of change! At Froth Beverages we are celebrating the symbol of courage, and the power that South African women have to continue to bring about transformation.
